The Skin Care Routine that Finally Cleared Up My Acne Prone Skin

I have struggled with acne most of my life. It has never been horrible (I don't get cystic acne) but always just enough to be annoying, make me self-conscious and render me generally unwilling to leave the house without some makeup. In high school, I was utterly dumb when in came to skin care; I thought that the more I could dry out my oily skin, the less oily it would be. Oh how wrong was I... I also used to sleep in my makeup, used zero moisturizers and used no sunscreen. I wish I could go back and slap my 16-year-old self and tell her all the things I know now.

Since college, I have been on a skincare kick; I am 100% on board with all the sun protection, serums, moisturizers, collagen vitamins, and whatever else can help give me clear, glowing skin. It has definitely improved my skin but I have never really been able to kick my occasional, annoying breakouts.

I have bounced between products constantly trying to find the perfect combination. Lots of things worked a little bit or for a little while but nothing ever quite did the trick. Over the last year, I think I finally found the perfect combo.

Cleanser
I love this cleanser because it is super gentle but also gives a nice deep clean. Though my skin is oily, it can also dry out super easily. This cleanser has yet to dry out my skin (knock on wood).

Alternating Cleanser
MARIO BADESCU Glycol Foam Cleanser
I use this cleanser a few times a week to exploiate my skin. It is gentle as explotators go and doesn't dry my skin out and makes my skin so much brighter!

Toner
I have been using a variety of witch hazel toners for about two years now. I love that witch hazel is a natural toner that is gentle and effective. This is my favorite witch hazel toner yet; it smells amazing, it very gentle and does its job!

Serum
Vitamin C Serum, Main, color, NO COLOR
I use this Vitamin C serum about 3-4 times a week before bed. It is super effective and applies really easily with my quartz roller.

Night Moisturizer
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Water Face Gel Moisturizer for Dry Skin, 1.7 fl. oz
I LOVE this HA moisturizer. It is super hydrating without feeling like my skin is coated in something gooey. It sinks into the skin and my face is always softer and noticeably smoother the next day. I also love that it is a reasonable price for a high-quality product.

Day Moisturizer
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Gel Face Cream with Hyaluronic Acid, Daily Moisturizing Cream with SPF 15, Oil Free and Non-Comedogenic, 1.7 fl. oz
I use the day version of my night moisturizer under my makeup. I love that it is a gel formula which works well with my oily skin and it has SPF which is absolutely NECESSARY every single day without fail.

Lip Balm
MARIO BADESCU Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm
I have the dryest lips ever and this lip balm is legit amazing. It smells good, it is so hydrating and lasts a long time. I use it all day long.

Hydrating Spray
I love to use this as a little extra boost during long days or to set my makeup and make it look dewy. Also, supposedly Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex uses this so that's a win in my book!
