Welcome!

Hello friends!

Whether you happened upon this blog randomly or have come to seek out something in particular, I want to introduce myself. My name is Brandy Brown and I am a 22-year-old law student from a small midwestern town surrounded by cornfields. In undergrad, I majored in History and Pre-Law as well as multi-tasking, coffee drinking and memory making. I currently attend Law School (1L life) and I hope to become a defense attorney or a corporate lawyer or an international lawyer.... in other words, I have no idea what I want to do with this Law Degree I am devoting 3 years of my life to. More on that later.

I grew up on my parents horse farm practically on the back of a horse. I have shown horses all my life and they are one of my biggest defining factors of my life as well as my greatest passion. My horse is Charlie and he is perfect and a magazine cover boy.
Outside of horses, my life revolves around my family, friends and Husband.

Bridesmaids pose because duh!

I got engaged to the man of my dreams, my high school sweetheart and the only boy I have ever kissed in June 2014.
In May 2016, right after graduating college, my husband and I bought a little starter home. It is going to be a bit of a process to make it our dream home but we are loving every minute of being "homeowners".

On July 16, 2016, I became a wife and it is happily ever after with the man of my dreams. Newlywed life is pretty great.

We have three puppies, Garth, a blue merle Aussie who thinks he is a baby, Grace, the happiest Golden Retriever ever, and Annie, our mixed breed and imperfectly precious mutt. They make our life both hectic and wonderful.

In May 2015, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to visit London, England through study abroad. It was a life-changing experience that I am thankful for every day. Since I was able to go to London and study abroad in college, I am a huge proponent of travel and wanderlust. Also, as a result, I am obsessed with all things British.... it drives my family nuts.

If you are wondering about why my blog is called "The Legal Duchess", it is a two-part explanation. First, I am a law student and plan to be an attorney. Therefore, "legal" is a huge part of my life and future. Second, I am obsessed with British royal life, particularly late 19th century. Therefore, I wish I had been a 19th-century duchess in an English country home where I could drink tea and wear pretty dresses for a living but it was not meant to be. Don't get me wrong, I love my life but a girl can dream right?

Why did I start blogging? Several reasons. First, Law School bloggers are few and far between. I feel that aspiring lawyers should have a place to go find out what orientation is really like, what people really wear in Law School and how to handle being cold called for the first time.

Second, I love to write and share my voice. If something I share helps just one person, that just warms my heart. I am an open and blunt person: if you want to hear it, do not hesitate to ask because I will not hesitate to answer with honesty and sometimes a bit too much sarcasm... don't judge it is my second language.

Third, there are so many things I want to share: Law School life, newlywed life, being a first-time homeowner, fun DIY's, travel and so much more. A blog seemed like the perfect place to combine this and share it with the world and any other aspiring law students/newlyweds/OCD organizers/horse lovers/travelers out there.

Fourth, I want to make connections with YOU- my readers. I will never cease to smile when I get a new comment, new follower or an email from a reader. This blog is here for YOU and I want to connect with YOU. If that is simply you following me on Instagram, great! If it means you subscribe by email, Bloglovin' and follow on Social Media, even better. Whatever way we connect, I want to make those connections because without readers, what even is the point of a blog? Whatever brings you to TheLegalDuchess.com, I hope you choose to stay awhile and make some connections.

Here are ten obscure facts about me:
  1. I enjoy few things more than a good book. I get attached to fictional characters and wish I could just walk onto the pages of Pride and Prejudice
  2. I am obsessed with tea and coffee. Caffeine is life
  3. I'm still waiting for my Hogwarts letter.... I am a Gryffindor FYI
  4. I am quite possibly the biggest history nerd ever. My favorite piece of writing to date was a 15-page thesis paper on the British women's role in WWII
  5. I adore blue gingham and lace
  6. Green is my favorite color
  7. I m extremely OCD, I make lists like it's my job and everything in my life must be color coded and labeled.
  8. I have never outgrown Disney and have a Disney Princess CD in my car for road trips
  9. I am addicted to Lifesavers peppermints and White Cheddar Popcorn
  10. My favorite book of all time is called The Hot Zone and it is about Ebola (don't judge until you read it)
I'm not too exciting; I like to live a quiet life with my animals, my books, my family and my friends. I love to write and started this blog as an outlet for all my thoughts and musings on life, law school, getting married young and anything else that pops into my mind. I hope you find something useful.
Enjoy the blog and thanks for visiting!

  1. Great blog here Brandy. But before I can commit to reading any further, I need to know whether you think the Kiera Knightly 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice or the 1995 Colin Firth BBC miniseries is the superior version? Think long and hard before you answer! One reader hangs in the balance! :)

    1. Hello! Thanks for reading. I do prefer the Kiera Knightly version.... while they are both fantastic the soundtrack and cinematography of the 2005 adaptation just push it over the edge for me. However, if I'm being honest, I would rather read the book all day long.
