25 Lessons I have Learned in 25 Years

Happy Sunday!

Today is my 25th birthday. I woke up to donuts from our local bakery that my hubby got up early to get and he's taking me to Olive Garden later #blessed. The last semester of my law school career starts tomorrow but I am going to ignore that for a sec and focus on what's really exciting here- MY BIRTHDAY!

My 25 years have been pretty great. I have traveled worldwide, I have had amazing educational opportunities, I have fallen in love, I have pursued passions, I have chased my dreams... I have been blessed beyond measure to never spend a day hungry, cold, penniless or in danger. On this quarter life milestone, I am doing a little reflection over 25 lessons I have learned in my 25 trips around the sun.

1. More dogs = more happiness.

2. Toxic friendships have to removed- I prefer to just chop them out of my life completely. Some friendships just drift away... and that is okay. Some friends will come back and try to embrace that even if there is some previous pain.

3. Day planners are the key to an organized life. Paper > digital.

4. Always lay out your outfit the night before if you want a smooth morning.

5. When in doubt, bake your troubles away. Cupcakes heal everything.

6. Sometimes true love appears when you least expect it... like communications class during your freshman year of high school.

7. Staying in can be just as fun as going out (actually sometimes it is more fun).

8. Life is precious- say I love you regularly and try not to take time with loved ones for granted.

9. When you can't decide what to watch on TV, you can never go wrong with a rerun of:
            • Friends
            • The Office
            • Little House on the Prairie
            • Parks & Rec
            • Gilmore Girls
            • New Girl
            • How I Met Your Mother
            • Whose Line is it Anyway?

10. Never let anyone belittle your hobbies or your passions. Do what makes YOU happy.

11. Traveling is good for the soul. Do it often.

12. Someday you may wake up addicted to coffee and that is okay.

13. Don't go grocery shopping on an empty stomach.... you really don't need the extra box of Poptarts; you were just hangry.

14. Keep your eyes and ears open to the world around you; you never know when you will learn something new or discover something amazing.

15. History is so important... lest we forget it we may repeat it.

16. Life happens on your own timeline... marry when you find the right person feel ready, don't let anyone tell you when you should have a kid by and try not to rush too fast to grow up.

17. Life is so much simpler and less stressful when you stop comparing yourself to others and worrying about what people think of you... and this is so much easier said than done.

18. Fuzzy blankets and fuzzy socks are some of life's greatest luxuries.

19. It's okay to question yourself sometimes.

20. But you have to have confidence in yourself and your abilities.

21. The good friends will stick with you through thick and thin... and the friendship will run both ways.

22. Etiquette didn't die with Emily Post.... figure out which fork is used for what and save yourself the future embarrassment.

23. Scrambled eggs taste best cooked in butter and no diet is worth sacrificing that.

24. Pursuing your dreams is really, really hard.

25. Don't get caught up in the highlight reel... live your life as fully and unapologetically as you can even if it gets a little messy sometimes.

(also, let's just take a second to thank puberty... middle school was not my finest hour)
