Friday Five 12/7/18

Happy Friday!

I am finishing up my first week of exams. I only had one exam this week (thank the heavens!) and I am working hard to prepare for my next exam on 12/12. Because I only had one exam, I actually had some spare time this week- a total rarity during finals! Here are a few snapshots from my week:

A friend of ours got a new puppy and brought her over to visit- I am obsessed (puppy fever is real!). I made my dog wear a Christmas sweater all week and I am obsessed with our Christmas tree. There was only one day this week I did not wear leggings so I made sure to get a picture of me in real pants during finals week. I also bought antlers because for $4 at Walmart why wouldn't I? and Starbucks is necessary because of #finalsweek and a looming exam over Business Associations.

Here are a few of my favorite things from this week!

1. Book of the Month

I have always been an avid reader. I used to get my books taken away during class because I would be reading under the desk when I was supposed to be doing algebra. I am always looking for a new read and I follow Reese Witherspoon's book recommendations quite closely (she probably my favorite celebrity). Her book recommendation this month is One Day in December by Josie Silver. I have been trying to decide what book I would treat myself to after final exams are over and this one sounded perfect. It is a holiday romance novel described as being in the same vein as the beloved holiday movie Love Actually and that is perfect for my post-finals tired brain.

Once I made up my decision to get this book, I started looking for the best deal on it. I had heard of the Book of the Month program. It is basically a monthly subscription where you pick one of a few possible books to be delivered to your door and you can skip or cancel at any time. The prices are very reasonable and they seem to have a great selection. I was able to snag One Day in December for just $5 thanks to a promotional code. The monthly book is usually $14.99 which is still a great deal for a quality hardcover book.

If you are interested in signing up for Book of the Month or want to join me in a post-finals reading of One Day in December, follow this link to receive a book for FREE!!!!

I am seriously considering running a little online book club for this novel. Would anyone be interested in reading along and having a little book club online meeting afterward? Let me know in the comments and if there is interest, I will set it up!

2. ThredUp
I posted about this on my stories last week but I had to share again! I recieved my first box this week and I am OBSESSED! I was able to get all these items shown below for less than $25!!!! It is CRAZY! I found so many professional pieces I can wear in my lawyer life and the brands are J. Crew, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor... such a good deal and I am very pleased with the quality.

Seriously look at those prices!!!!

This is a great resource to be able to build a professional lawyer wardrobe without spending a ton of money. If you are interested in trying ThredUP for yourself, follow the link below to receive $10 OFF your first order!!!

3. Makeup Dupe
I am always looking for ways to save a little money and makeup is very expensive. I am very fond of the NARS Orgasm Blush which is around $30- 40. I have been looking for a good dupe that is cheaper and I recently found two that I am happy with: The Milani and the Elf version shown below!

4. Anastasia

My husband and I watched Anastasia the other night and I forgot how much I LOVE that movie. It is so historically inaccurate but it is cute and funny and has awesome music. Also, the day after we watched it, I came across this card in a set of Law in a Flash cards while studying for my exam and the song from the movie was playing on Pandora. Apparently, Anastasia is just meant to be a part of my life this week!

Moral of the story, if you have never seen this classic movie, you need to remedy that ASAP because you are seriously missing out.

5. New Face Moisturizer
I have been looking for a new face moisturizer to use at night. I have bounced between a few different types over the last few months but nothing has been perfect. I have been reading massive amounts of reviews online trying to pinpoint the perfect one without paying $50 for a teeny tiny jar. My face is oily and acne prone but I still get dry patches- textbook combination skin. Also, I am starting to see some lines and crows feet which I need to stop in their tracks.

I finally narrowed it down to two varieties I wanted to try that have great reviews for combo skin and don't break the bank from Amazon:

While I am waiting on those two to ship, I found this randomly while shopping in Walmart. I like the ingredients and you can't beat the price. I looked it up and it also has GREAT reviews.
Advanced Clinicals Collagen Skin Rescue Lotion - Hydrate, Moisturize, Lift, Firm. Great for Dry Skin (16oz)

So I am going to try all three varieties and see what I like best! I will post my results in a month or so!
