Happy Thursday friends!
I am taking a little study break to bring you a blog post about studying. If you don't know, I am currently studying for the Ohio Bar Exam. This means I study 7-8 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is not the most fun I have ever had but I am trucking along and getting it done.
My post today is full of the products that are absolutely helping me survive this time in my life.

My Post-Law School Job Search
Happy Thursday!
I have had a few requests to share some about my job search now that I have graduated law school. This is going to be short and sweet.
I have planned on becoming a criminal prosecutor since my second semester of law school. It is something I am truly passionate about and I feel driven to pursue. I have now graduated with a concentration in criminal law and I am currently studying for the Ohio bar exam.
My job search plan is a little different than most. I am not pursuing job applications until after the bar exam (unless the absolute perfect opportunity presents itself). This is because the jobs that I want to apply for 1) almost exclusively hire licensed lawyers who have passed the bar exam already and 2) have a high turnover rate in my area.
I have a position set up for after the bar already so I technically have employment lined up post-bar. I will be a recruiting ambassador for my law school admissions office from August-November. I will travel on behalf of the law school to recruit students and spread the word about the fabulous little law school I graduated from. Having this position lined up has taken away a lot of my job search stress because it covers the time where I would have had nothing. After bar results come in, I will know how to proceed from there.
After my temporary position in admissions ends and bar results are released, I will hopefully find a criminal law position soon after. If it takes a little longer to find a job, I am okay with that. I am blessed to have a husband who had a good job and provides for our little family. I make a small income from a few side-hustles (this blog, running social media for a local company and a small Etsy store). I have absolutely no student loans from undergrad nor law school. If it takes me a month or two to find a job I will enjoy and find fulfillment it, it is okay. I will allow myself to be a little picky and not just take the first job that comes along.
This plan and my opinions are probably contrary to what people generally think a job search should look like and what the legal field preaches but it is my plan, it fits with my life and that's what really matters.
Today is the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. This was the day that changed the projection of World War 2 and because of that, the world we live in today. This was the day of the largest scale aquatic invasion in history as well as one of the most daring endeavors of all time.
We remember D-Day now and forever as a day where young men put aside differences, opinions, pride, fear, and consideration for their own mortality to storm the beaches of Normandy and do their part to vanquish one of the greatest evils our world has ever known. Today, we must remember and honor those men for their bravery, perseverance and for many, ultimate sacrifice, and gave us a better world. It may not be a perfect world, but it is a better world.

The Perfect Summer Dress Under $25
Hello all!!
It is no secret on this little blog of mine that I love a sale and finding cute items on a budget. I grew up in a household that had a pretty strict budget and Goodwill was a standard back to school shopping spot for me. That frugal mindset has never really left me. Though I love fashion and being on trend, I refuse to do it in a way that affects the family budget or is overly wasteful. I have absolutely no problem thrifting, shopping places like TJ Maxx and Gabe's for brand new on the cheap and Walmart is honestly one of my favorite places to snatch up cute items at unbeatable prices.
Today I am highlighting a dress I picked up at my local Walmart for less than $25. Personally, I have dubbed this the perfect dress for summer. It is cute, it is comfortable and it has POCKETS.

Friday Five 5/31/19
Happy Friday!
I had a pretty quiet week full of bar prep. Nothing overly exciting. I think Friday Five is going to be an every other week thing until the end of bar prep because honestly guys... my life is hella boring right now.
Having Monday off was lovely- my husband and I spent the weekend with family and Monday was our relax/catch-up day after a busy weekend of family time and fitting in work. Wednesday I caught a coffee with one of my besties and went to the zoo with my sister and nephews in between bar prepping.
This weekend, I am helping my husband decorate his new office and meeting up with the girls... and spending way too much time bar prepping.

My Tactics for Bar Exam Prep
Well, I am almost done with my third week of bar prep and I am starting to get a routine down I think. I can say that it is not the most fun thing I have ever done but it is also not the worst. I am in my third week and I am 20% through my program already. Below I am outlining what I am doing, how it is working and what I am using to make it happen.
My Study Space
My study space is simple but effective. My husband and I turned our extra room into an office. I have a desk, bookshelf, filing cabinet, printer and it works out just how I need it too.
Two really helpful things I have in my space is a laptop riser and book stand. Both of these help to keep me from bending over and straining my neck. I have linked them below:

Sunday Six/Five 5/19/19
So it's been a week. This was supposed to be a Friday Five but in light of my getting in a car accident on Friday afternoon, it got pushed back to today. Thankfully I am 100% okay and my car only has cosmetic damage (the other driver was also fine and her car had no damage). So now I get to fit an autobody shop visit into my week so yay.
On a brighter note, I got a few grades back this week and I got an A in my favorite class from the semester! It also pushed my GPA way up and my husband had flowers delivered to our house to congratulate me. He is the SWEETEST <3
Otherwise, the rest of my week was pretty much nothing but bar prep. Enjoy these snaps of me doing the same thing day in, day out.
Friday night my sister and her family came over to visit. My nephew and my dog Gracie were born within two weeks of each other and they have been besties for life.
Saturday morning my friend brought her golden over for a playdate and it was so much fun.
Then, I drank Starbucks while my husband did yard work #marriagegoals.

Gluten Free Cooking Made Easy with Keystone Meats
Do you ever have those nights where you have absolutely no idea what to make for dinner, you don't feel like going back out to the store and you're starving?? You end up just staring into the cabinet searching endlessly for something easy and quick before your stomach gurgles again and your husband considers mutiny. Those days are the worst. It's even harder to come up with a meal on the fly when you have dietary restrictions. My husband has to eat a gluten-free diet and it seriously complicates what I can and can't cook. I have a serious beef with those moments- the last thing you want at the end of a busy day is to waste a bunch of time cooking, deciding what to cook or running out to pick up something take-out that isn't healthy and isn't in your budget.
These are the nights when I just need something easy, wholesome and gluten free that will be the basis of a good meal for my husband and I. Enter Keystone Meats to solve this problem for me!!
Keystone Meats has a line of canned beef with only two ingredients: beef and sea salt. This means that it is not only gluten-free but also free of any unnatural agents. It is good, recipe-ready, all-natural beef. I love keeping a few cans in the cabinet just for those nights where I am out of other ideas for dinner.
I can't explain how amazing it is to have something in the cabinet that is quick, easy, good tasting and good for you. Especially as someone who has to cook gluten-free, finding easy options like this is an absolute lifesaver.
There are lots of easy recipes that you can use this beef in and I am sharing one of my favorites, for barbeque beef sandwiches, below. Some other easy meals would be using Keystone beef as the beef in an instant pot stroganoff or in an easy beef and noodles recipe.
Keystone Meats is out to help solve this conundrum of what to make for a quick easy dinner with their natural, yummy canned beef. Throughout May, in celebration of National Beef Month, join my friends at Keystone Meats as they invite fans from all over the U.S. to vote daily on their biggest kitchen problem. Keystone is ready and willing to solve it with recipe-ready, all-natural beef. When you vote, you will be entered to win a year’s supply of Keystone Meats!
If you’ve got a beef in the kitchen, tell us about it! After years of headaches, vote on your biggest kitchen beef and you could win! https://keystonemeats.com/whats-your-beef-in-the-kitchen/

My Schedule for Bar Exam Prep
Hump day!!! All I can think about is the camel commercial whenever I say or hear hump day.
Back to actual blogging though, today I am sharing my schedule for bar exam prep. Now that I have graduated from law school, my next hurdle is the dreaded bar exam. For those who don't know, the bar exam is a state-specific test that must be passed in order to be licensed to practice law in that particular state. It tests you on relevant law in that state as well as a combined group of legal subjects that you likely took in law school. So basically it is a 2-3 day test on everything you learned in law school plus some more. Shoot me now...
To prepare for the bar exam, a majority of people utilize a bar prep course. These are commercial resources which layout what you need to learn, how you need to learn it and everything else you need to know to have the best shot at passing the bar exam.
Personally, I am taking the Ohio bar exam at the end of July. I am prepping for the bar exam with the Themis Bar Review Course. For the next 2.5 months, I am basically studying all day every day.
In order to form a routine and to try to keep some normality in my life, I have formulated a study schedule for my bar prep time.
As you can see, most of my time is allotted to bar exam prep and studying. Additionally, I have allotted time for study group with friends also studying for the bar. I thrive in study group situations so I know this is something I need to do to be successful.
Further, I have allotted a lot of time to running and yoga- sitting in a chair all day drives me crazy and I need to be active. Running in the morning helps me to be more still throughout the day and doing yoga helps ease my tight muscles and stress. It is always good to be active for both physical and mental health.
I also left time for blogging and relaxing because it is important to take time to yourself and to do things you enjoy. Studying for the bar exam is a marathon, not a sprint. If I go to hard in the beginning, I will burn out before the exam. Slow, steady and diligent will win this race.
Some other things I am keeping in mind during bar prep is eating well, sleeping well and staying positive. I am stocking the house with only healthy snacks (ok and a little chocolate because that is a requirement) and keeping a water bottle next to me at all times! My husband has been cooking a lot of healthy dinners and making enough so I can have leftovers for lunch the next day. I have been going to bed at a reasonable time (ok, most of the time) and trying to get up relatively early so I have a normal schedule.
I am a week and a half into bar prep and so far it isn't horrible. BUT, if anyone has ANY tips for bar prep, I am happy to get them all! Thank you!

Friday Five 5/10/19
Happy Friday!!!
This was my first full week of bar prep and so far it has been okay. I would not call it fun, but it is not the worse thing I have ever done.
In between bar prep, I spent lots of quality time with the hubby and pups and caught up on some projects around the house and lots of TV. Overall, it was a pretty uneventful week.

A Reflection on Completing Law School
The fact that I am now a law school graduate is absolutely surreal. Even though the Dean hooded me, I was handed a diploma and I got to switch my tassel, I simply do not feel like I am a Juris Doctor now.

I have been dreaming of this since I as in about 4th grade. I spend most of my life to this point working singlemindedly toward this goal. Do well in High School so you get into college, do well in college so you have a good GPA, get involved so you have a solid resume for law school applications, crush the LSAT, pick a law school, excel in law school, complete internships... graduate and become a Lawyer. After all that, I am finally here and it feels just a little bit hollow.
I know that sounds crazy; I just achieved my dream, how could I be anything but ecstatic?? Well, there is something about finishing law school that leaves me without a clear direction for the first time in my life. My whole life has been planned down to the details so that I would make it to law school. Now, my life is full of unknowns. I don't know if I will pass the bar exam or not. I do not know if I will find my dream job right away. I don't know if my husband and I will stay in Toledo or if we will move. I don't know when we should have kids. I don't know a lot of things right now... and that's okay.
As much as I struggle to not have a plan, I know that everything will eventually work out. I will pass the bar, I will find a job, I will end up with the life I have dreamed of. For those of us who are type A, planners, and mildly OCD, it is hard to go through life with unknowns. My plan for right now is to wake up every day and remind myself that I conquered my goals already and I can conquer future goals as well. I just need to take it one day at a time.
The other reason I am feeling a little hollow is that law school is over for me. As hard as it was, I loved law school. Throughout law school, I was challenged academically for the first time in my life and as hard as that was to get used to, I learned to thrive on it. I love learning new things every day and using my brain to its full capacity. Throughout law school, I made amazing friends and connections. Like any stage in life, some friends fade away and some become those you can't live without and I got a little of both during law school. But, it taught me more about myself and what to look for in friendship and I am walking away with some friends for a lifetime and that is a precious thing. Throughout law school, I was able to put the law into action through internships and clinics. This taught me that the practice of law is a noble, albeit flawed, profession that I can't wait to be a part of. Throughout law school, I found strengths within myself that I was unaware of. I realized I have a gift for public speaking and oral argument that I had never previously explored. I realized that I enjoy other subjects beyond criminal law. Throughout law school, I learned how to fail for the first time in my life and it was the most humbling and also worthwhile lesson.
I was absolutely blessed to attend a law school that felt like a family. The University of Toledo College of Law was my home for three years and I truly loved my time there. It is a place where professors start class with AC/DC, wear a helmet while teaching to show a reasonably prudent person, and dance to helps us learn contracts. It is a place where staff will update the facebook group with outcoming grades to help ease student stress. It is a place where the Dean knows everyone's names and will let you pie him in the face to raise money for charity. It is a place where the student body shuns the idea of "cut-throat" law school and instead embraces the idea that we are one big family and law school is way more fun if we get along. It is a place full of free pizza, the never empty library candy bowl and a Lexis table every week with free coffee and tea.
When I remember that I do not get to return to UT Law this fall, it just makes me sad. I will truly miss my law school, my professors, my friends and my favorite chair in the Moot Court lounge. But, to quote a famous and fitting phrase, "How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard"- Winnie the Pooh.
I could not be prouder to be an Alum of the University of Toledo College of Law and I am so thankful that I got to spend 3 amazing, challenging, empowering, difficult and enjoyable years there.

A Quick Guide to the Kentucky Derby
If you did not know already, this weekend is the Kentucky Derby. As a lifelong equestrian and horse racing aficionado, this is one of my favorite weekends of the year. Today I am providing a little guide for those who may not understand the Derby and everything that goes along with it... it is so much more than just a horse race.
What is the Kentucky Derby?
Held every year on the first Saturday in May since 1875, the Kentucky Derby is America's most famous horse race. It is held at Churchill Downs, a storied race track in Louisville, Kentucky. Called "The Run for the Roses" due to the rose blanket that is draped across the shoulders of the winning horse, the race is 1 1/4 mile long and is open only to the top 3-year-old Thoroughbred racehorses in the world.

What You Have to Know About Law School Final Exams
"Your value as a person is not determined by your performance on this exam or any other exam, your performance in law school nor the bar exam. Your value is inherent and inviolate and nothing can take it away from you."
- quoting Professor Shelley Cavalieri.

| Print this out and hang it above your desk. I promise you will thank me |
There is so much pressure to excel on law school exams and that is okay. What is not okay is letting the need to excel, the need to beat the curve and the need to get that A becomes your benchmark on how you determine your value as a law student, as a lawyer or as a human being. A grade is just a grade. It is just one piece of the puzzle. It is not the end all be all.
A bad grade is not the end of the world. A few bad grades are not the end of the world. Let it push you and drive you to do better but do NOT let it defeat you.
Speaking from personal experience, there is nothing more defeating and heartbreaking than failing a class in law school or getting a grade lower than you wanted. I remember sitting in my bed at 2am when my Property I grade was released bawling my eyes out because I got a C- and that meant I had failed and would have to retake the class. It was one of the most crushing moments of my life. But, I picked myself up and decided I was never failing a class again and pushed myself harder until my law school GPA and grades were something I could be proud of. Now, I am getting ready to graduate. I have cords and medals to wear on graduation day. I have gotten A's, I have gotten the highest grade in a class, I have excelled in Moot Court and I have a resume full of honors and awards from my time in law school. I am not longer that girl who failed Property I... I am 2 weeks away from being a Juris Doctor and the highest educated person in my family.
My law schools grades, both the good and the bad, do not define me. Your grades do not define you. Please do not let anyone ever let you think otherwise and please don't let yourself start to believe that it is true.
You got into law school for a reason- you are good enough, you are smart enough and you can do this. If you remember nothing else from everything I have typed into this little blog, please remember this.
Good luck to all this exam season!

Friday Five 4/26
Happy Friday!
Today I am taking my last substantive final exam! ( I have one more next week but it is good faith effort/participate to pass so I do not have to study for it). My week was basically full of nothing but study study study and take exams. However, there were some bright spots: on Easter, I was blessed to welcome a new nephew, Lincoln Lee.
Here are a few fun snaps from my week:

Book Review: The Boys in the Boat
Taking a break from exams to bring you a book review!
The April book pick for our Novel Idea Book Club was The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown. This is the story of the 1936 USA Olympic Rowing Team that took Gold at the Berlin Olympics. It was a team of 8 college boys from the University of Washington who grew up in logging towns and fishing villages before making their way onto the worlds stage and rowed their way into the history books.
It is no secret that I am a giant history nerd so this book was right up my alley. 1936 was a historical time... the Great Depression was still holding America in its grasp, Germany was rising again into a monster no one could foresee and the world had not even yet recovered from the war to end all wars. It was into this backdrop that 8 tall, Northwestern boys stepped into a rowing shell and into the history books. I love a good underdog story and these boys, who had no money, no pedigree and no reason to believe that they could be Olympians were the ultimate underdogs. Rowing is an elitist sport and yet, it was the working class boys that took the day. You can't write stories better than that and yet, this one was real.
If you have not read it, all I can say is that you should.

Choosing Courses Throughout Law School
Happy Monday!!!
This is the first Monday in my final week of academic classes EVER. In addition to sharing that happy news, I am sharing all the tips and tricks I have learned about choosing and scheduling your courses throughout law school. I have had several people request a post on this topic so I hope it is helpful.
As most law students know, there are a series of classes that the ABA requires every law student to take in order to graduate. Additionally, there are a series of classes that will be tested on the state bar you choose to take that are highly recommended. Beyond that, you can choose to take whatever classes interest you.

Friday Five 4/12/19
Happy Friday!
This was my second to last week of school.... ever. I am ALMOST DONE. Overall, my week was pretty full of studying, outlining and getting ready for final exams. This weekend I have a banquet for Moot Court, judging try-outs for Moot Court next year and more studying for exams. Here are a few other snapshots from my week.
